Overview of Services

The Government of India operates Bharat Dynamics (BDL). It produces guided missiles and related military hardware. The company provides a wide range of defense products, such as launchers, torpedoes, anti-tank guided missiles, surface-to-air missiles, and air-to-air missiles. Additionally, it provides specialized test equipment and countermeasures for missile and undersea weapon platforms.

As the Indian Armed Forces continue to modernize, BDL is well-positioned to pursue new production opportunities for a variety of weapon systems, including heavy weight torpedoes, air defense systems, surface-to-air missiles, and air-to-air missiles, therefore becoming a manufacturer of defense equipment. BDL has also ventured into the field of upgrading outdated missiles.

Scale of Operations

Driven by locally produced military systems and robust international outreach through channel partners, defense fairs, and embassy contacts, it recorded its highest-ever exports of Rs. 1,270 Cr. It still receives orders from friendly foreign countries.

The French SS11B1, a first-generation anti-tank guided missile, was the company’s first product. BDL has developed internal research and development capabilities, mainly concentrating on design and engineering activities, while carrying out its fundamental function as a manufacturer of weapons systems. BDL’s three manufacturing facilities are situated in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh; Bhanur, Medak district; and Kanchanbagh, Hyderabad.

Two more plants are planned in Amravati, Maharashtra, and Ibrahimpatnam, Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district.

With new facilities in Ibrahimpatnam, Amravati, and Jhansi, it is increasing its capacity to produce SAMs, next-generation missiles, VSHORADs, rockets, and propellants for ATGMs. In order to increase self-sufficiency and lessen dependency on imports, it is also stepping up indigenization initiatives across ATGMs, SAMs, AAMs, and torpedoes.
